Thank you for joining us, readers, because today there is some fun to be had. I have the honor of introducing you to our very special guest, Sir Edgar Allan Kipling, who has agreed to an exclusive interview to highlight and promote his ongoing memoir *coughcough* I mean urban fantasy series. Behold a portrait of this most illustrious of felines (his words, not mine).

Lydia: So, let’s get started. Sir Kipling, could you take a moment to tell our readers a bit more about this book series?

Sir Kipling: Must I? One would think a set of exceptional book covers is all one would need to become entranced with my story. But if you insist, I suppose I could summarize. Let’s see…Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus – the Lily Singer Adventures, is an epic tale about a noble cat saving the world from certain doom.

Lydia: …really? Fascinating…except, as the author, I believe I can accurately say that is a very skewed description. Would you mind giving our readers a more balanced version?

Sir Kipling: That IS the balanced version, you humans are all biased…oh fine, it’s a fascinating study of the oddities of human behavior when mixed with magic, and my constant attempts to keep my human out of trouble. There, happy now?

Lydia: Um…sure. So, Sir Kipling, tell us about the main characters of the story: archive manager and wizard Lily Singer, and her troublemaking witch friend, Sebastian Blackwell.

Sir Kipling: You mean the supporting characters? Obviously I’m the main character.

Lydia: Well, I…*sighs*…yes, tell us about the supporting characters.

Sir Kipling: With pleasure. Lily is an excellent human specimen, as humans go, even if she does, occasionally, have these ridiculous notions about “being in charge.” It has taken me years to break her of it. I’m no biology expert, but it seems to be a built-in human defect, so I don’t hold it against her. Other than that she’s quite reliable, an excellent petter, and her lap, let me tell you, is luxury beyond belief.

Now, Sebastian, he’s a different animal altogether. He’s rather like fur: smooth in one direction and a pain in the butt in the other. He’ll be giving you the most luxurious petting of your life, then suddenly stand up and dump you on the floor. What manners! He obviously is a street human and doesn’t belong to anyone, because no cat would stand for such treatment. They’d have had him in paw long before this.

Lydia: Okaaay…great! Not exactly what I was looking for, but I’ll take it. So who would you say is an ideal audience for the book series. Who would most enjoy it?

cef15c27317749461f1755c65ceb8ca7Sir Kipling: Smart people, of course.

Lydia: Er, why do you say that?

Sir Kipling: Because all smart people like cats.

Lydia: Well, that’s not exactly true, and possibly an insulting insinuation (I apologize on behalf of my guest). So you’re saying dog people are stupid?

Sir Kipling: Not at all. They’re just doing their civic duty. I mean, SOMEBODY has to keep an eye on all those slobber mills. The reality is, some people don’t know how smart they really are. Put a “cat hater” in a room full of kittens and you’ll see what I mean.

Lydia: Yes, well, that’s an…interesting opinion. Moving on, what do you think is the most unique, special quality of these books that makes them stand out and deserve our readers’ support?

Sir Kipling: I assume that’s a rhetorical question?

Lydia: Uh…no?

Sir Kipling: Hmm. I thought it had to be, since the answer is obvious. I’m sure your readers don’t need me to spell it out.

Lydia: Humor us, if you would.

Sir Kipling: Well, ME, of course.

Lydia: …of course.

Sir Kipling: I mean, no one really needs to give a second thought to the gripping adventure, the witty, snarky humor, or the fascinating magic system when there’s me to consider. Come now, talking cat extraordinaire? It doesn’t get better than that. Don’t get me wrong, Sebastian’s antics and Lily’s spell casting are entertaining enough. But I promise you, people will be skimming the pages to get to my part.

Lydia: I see…so basically what you’re saying is that I should leave Lily and Sebastian out of future books since they’re just in the way? An annoying barrier between you and your adoring fans?

Sir Kipling: I mean…when you put it like that…I suppose they do serve an important function. After all, who could stand a story that’s 100%, pure, me? It would be too overwhelming to the human mind. It might pose a health risk. My supporting cast can stay, for now.

Lydia: Uh-huh, right. Well, folks, that’s a wrap. Thank you, Sir Kipling, for taking a moment to share your…feline insights. You can find out more about each book here. For those who appreciated a more “balanced” view, Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus – the Lily Singer Adventures is an urban fantasy series full of unexpected twists and snarky humor about witches and wizards saving the world from magical mayhem. This series has been known to cause: loud snorts of laughter, inexplicable craving for tea, and loss of work productivity. If you enjoy magic-filled adventures like Harry Potter, Supernatural, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch then you’ll get a kick out of Lily, Sebastian, and Sir Kipling’s story.
