I’m back!! Yay!!  I am now, quite permanently, Mrs. Lydia Sherrer.  To any who are interested, the wedding and honeymoon were fantastic.  Life and reality aren’t quite as fantastic, but hey, *shrugs* we already knew that, right?

After coming home on Sunday night, it has been fun *read, not actually fun*, readjusting to reality and work.  My first day back I got hit with a nasty cold.  To make matters worse, our beloved cat also got sick and had to go to the vet.  As you can imagine, it has been a “delightful” couple of days.  Irregardless, I’m happy to be home and raring to get back to writing and blogging!

In the time I’ve been away, I haven’t written anything, BUT, we have gotten closer to some exciting events.  First, I should be finding out soon if either of my stories, “Hope” or “Eye for an Eye”, placed in Almond Press’ Dystopian Fiction contest.  They said a month and a half for judging, so here’s me waiting VERY patiently—okay, maybe not—for the final verdict.  Stay tuned for more about that in the next week or two.

Second, the Cherokee Round Table writing group’s Christmas Anthology has gone to the editor for final approval before printing!  I have a short story and a poem each being published in this anthology, so it will be exciting when it’s finally published.

Though I haven’t had spare time, or spare brain cells, to write in the past month, I have been reading plenty.  I’ve come across some great articles on queries, the submission process, and book fairs that I think are helpful.  I link them here for your pleasure:

How to benefit from attending writing conferences

“So,” you ask, “what’s next?”

Good question!  I commend you for asking it. .  .  .  Oh, you’re asking me??  Ah, I see.  Weellll, as it happens, I did do some brainstorming with my husband over our honeymoon.  We discussed and further developed the plot and characters for my book.  So primarily, now that I’m married and all that horrid, time-consuming wedding disturbance is over, I will be attempting to establish some kind of regular writing routine to make major progress on my book.  You know, the kind of routine that happens every day?  Or maybe every other day….yes, every other day at the very least *I say as my cat glares up at me, incensed that my laptop is occupying HER resting spot on my lap*.

This will be difficult with a new household to run and husband to look after, but at least there’s no kids.  Yet ;).  I’ve found, once again, that the hardest thing about writing is, well, writing!  Getting the story written is one of the biggest jobs.  You can’t publish something that’s still in your head.  So, my (fellow) young padawan learners, go forth and write!  Good or bad, long or short, get it down on paper.

Besides the book I’m working on, there’s a Kentucky writer’s competition coming up in August which I’ll be writing a piece or two for.  And, of course, I’ve got a bunch of short story ideas buzzing around in the back of my head, who knows what will pop out next.

As always, it’s a pleasure and joy to be writing for your pleasure and joy.  Please comment and let me know what you think, how you’ve been doing, and even writing encouragement/advice.  Here’s to your health and continued sanity.  Talk to you next week!
